What is Sympathetic Magick?
Sympathetic magick operates on the idea that objects or actions that resemble or are symbolically connected to a desired outcome can influence that outcome. It is based on the idea that there is a sympathetic link or connection between things, and by manipulating one, you can affect the other.
There are two main types of sympathetic magick:
Law of Similarity: This type of sympathetic magic is based on the belief that objects or actions that resemble or are similar to the desired outcome can influence that outcome. For example, using a voodoo doll to represent a person and performing actions on the doll to affect the person.
Law of Contagion: This type of sympathetic magic is based on the belief that things that have been in contact with each other continue to have a connection or influence on each other, even when physically separated. For example, using a personal item, like a strand of hair or a piece of clothing, to cast a spell or perform a ritual to affect the person it belongs to.
Sympathetic magick can be found in various cultures and practices throughout history, such as folk magic, witchcraft, and certain forms of shamanism. It relies on the principle that through symbolic actions or representations, one can influence and manipulate the desired outcome.

Here are 5 examples of sympathetic magick
Candle Magick:
This form of sympathetic magick involves using candles to represent specific intentions or desired outcomes. Different colors and symbols on the candles are associated with various purposes. By lighting and focusing on the flame, the practitioner’s aim to manifest their intentions or bring about certain changes in the external world.
Knot Magick:
Knot magick involves tying knots in a cord or string while imbuing each knot with a specific intention. As each knot is tied, the practitioner visualizes their desired outcome or sets their intention. Untying the knots is believed to release the energy and bring about the desired result.
Picture Magick:
This practice uses photographs or drawings to represent individuals or situations. By manipulating or working with the image, such as drawing symbols or affirmations on it, practitioners aim to influence or change the circumstances associated with the person or situation depicted.
Food Magick:
Food magic involves infusing food or beverages with specific intentions or desired energies. For example, adding herbs, spices, or other ingredients with symbolic meanings to a dish can be done with the intention of bringing about love, prosperity, or protection.
Sympathetic Talismans or Amulets:
MY PERSONAL FAVORITE… :) Creating and carrying talismans or amulets that symbolically represent desired qualities or outcomes is another form of sympathetic magic. For example, wearing a piece of jewelry or carrying an object that represents strength or protection is believed to invoke those qualities in the wearer.
These are just a few examples of the diverse practices within sympathetic magic. It's important to approach such practices with respect, cultural understanding, and ethical considerations, as they may have different meanings and significance in various cultural or spiritual contexts.
"Magic is not a practice. It is a living, breathing web of life that wraps itself around us in every moment. We are the magicians, and every act we perform, whether mundane or profound, is an act of magic."
