Egregore
Egregore
Definition
An egregore is a collective thought-form or psychic entity created by the shared focus, emotions, and intentions of a group. It exists as an independent energy form and can influence the individuals connected to it.
The concept of the egregore has roots in ancient mysticism and occult traditions. The term originates from the Greek word egrégoroi, meaning "watchers," and was later popularized in Western esotericism by authors such as Eliphas Levi and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Historically, it has been associated with collective consciousness and the power of unified thought.
In occult practices, an egregore is understood as a spiritual or energetic entity that gains strength and autonomy through the sustained attention and belief of its creators. Egregores are often associated with organizations, religions, or movements, embodying their ideals and energy.
Recognizing and working with egregores involves understanding the power of collective intention. Practitioners can consciously create positive egregores for protection, manifestation, or group empowerment, while also learning to avoid becoming unconsciously influenced by harmful or outdated egregores.
